Whampoa Club, Shanghai
Whampoa club is situated in an elegant, understated Bund building, offering expansive views, a lush interior and exciting haute Chinese cuisine. A modern take on art deco, Whampoa Club’s gold and red lacquer interior, complete with coloured glass panels, recalls 1930s Shanghai.
Whampoa Club’s museum-like entrance offers glamour from the outset, and diners can expect indulgent Shanghainese dishes, offering a fusion of Shanghai delights and an upmarket, contemporary twist to Chinese classics.
Whampoa Club combines China’s impressive culinary history with innovation and forward thinking chefs. Mains such as Yyam noodle braised with seafood held regulate the excess of Yang in the body, reflecting Whampoa Club’s emphasis upon the body and health. Try Old-fashioned Shanghainese smoked fish & mixed assorted vegetables with salt bean curd and beef tendon for the real Whampoa experience.
Diners can also choose from a selection of over 50 Chinese teas, served in the elegant tearooms, and professional tea sommeliers help guests choose from the vast selection.
Whampoa Club seats 120 guests and its five private dining rooms can either accommodate smaller parties or provide an exclusive larger space for up to 80 people, featuring impressive Shanghai views. The food and the views speak for themselves, yet the accolades keep pouring in, with “Shanghai’s Best Restaurant 2011” being just one of many.
