Temple Restaurant, Beijing
Temple Restaurant is housed in both the Songzhu Temple and an old television factory, its contemporary design by Australian architectural firm Hassell has emphasised light and clean modern lines to contrast with the building’s former function. Its history extends over 600 years in conjunction with the Temple Hotel, which still features vestigial slogans from the Cultural Revolution.
TimeOut Beijing has bestowed Belgian chef Ignace Lecleir’s restaurant with Food Award Winner in both 2012 and 2013. Another highlight is the the restaurant’s excellent service which ‘kills you with kindness’ according to food critic Lillian Chou.
The restaurant’s private dining allows for intimate meetings as well as corporate functions of 200 people. Another key feature is its wine cellars, which deliver premium European bottles both in house and online. Leicler himself is known to serve guests as a sommelier, demonstrating the restaurant’s excellence in wine choice.
Guests can expect European classics such as Braised Lamb Shoulder with Asian twists such as a daikon accompaniment. Other notable dishes include Suckling Pig with Caramelised Apple Compote and Octopus Salad with Lemon Coulis, Pesto, and Pumpkin Purée.
