Shiseido produce £8.440 face cream more expensive than Gold

The Japanese company Shiseido, is now in its 140th year which means it is the oldest cosmetics company in the world.  Their range ‘Cle de Peau Beaute’, is now in its 30th year, and so to mark this anniversary the company have produced what is now believed to be the world’s most expensive face cream at £8,440 for a 50g jar.  That is £169 per gram – more expensive than gold.

The cream, called ‘La Creme’ will be presented in a luxurious jar which has been designed by Shiseido and Crystal Saint-Louis, a special glassmaker from France.  The hand crafted container is made up of 30 layers of crystal and 3 platinum rungs.  Shiseido state ‘We hope it will appeal to our loyal customers and people who are interested in gorgeous brands’.

Shiseido will just be producing three jars of La Creme which is presented in the crystal and platinum jar.  However, there will also be an edition available which will come in a less expensive container costing (£627.63) per jar.

La Creme will be released on 21st September, but will accept orders from the 30th of August at its main store in Tokyo. If there are more than three orders, a draw will be held.

Shiseido began by Arinobu Fukuhara, former head pharmacist to the Japanese Imperial Navy in 1872.  The company was the first to develop softening lotion, with a toner-like consistency.  Shiseido is currently the 4th largest cosmetics company in the world.
