‘Pininfarina in London’ Exhibition
The Italian design house Pininfarina is set to celebrate its work with the exhibition ‘Pininfarina in London’, opening later this week. Pininfarina were founded in 1930 by automobile designer and builder Battista Pinin Farina. The design house will also be exhibiting ‘Pininfarina Extra’, founded in 1986 which focuses on interior and product design. This includes the Torch of the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics.
The exhibition comes as part of The International Architecture and Design Showcase 2012. The showcase is designed to bring together examples of exceptional architectural and design projects from around the globe. Talks, installations, film-screenings and exhibitions such as ‘Pininfarina in London’ will promote design in various locations around London.
What to expect
Many of Pininfarina’s designs will exhibit at the show including a Ferrari FF and a Maserati Gran Turismo. Four sculptures in cedar wood will also be on display, reproducing four of Pininfarina’s design icons which include the Cisitalia of 1947, the Dino of 1967, the Birdcafe 75th of 2005 and the Cambino. A limited edition scale model of the 2uettottanata, Pininfarina’s Alfa Romeo concept car launched to celebrate Pininfarina’s 80th anniversary of 2010 will also be showcasing.
One of the highlights will be a model size exhibit of Pininfarina’s exciting new project the ‘Personal Rapid Transit’, an urban public transport concept. This project is currently being developed in collaboration with the Korean company Vectus. The design behind the concept is a system of small light and driverless vehicles which travel along a network of interconnecting tracks. A model will be viewable at the exhibition.
Pininfarina Extra
Pininfarina Extra are known for their innovative, and unique design concepts. They have created such designs as the calligaris orbital table, lange fluid ski boots, premiere conference chairs, the freestyle beverage dispenser and the Lacazza firma coffee machine. A selection of such admirable designs produced by Pininfarina Extra will be on display at the exhibition.
