Dubrovnik – The Walled Fortress

Dubrovnik has achieved various recognition for its outstanding historical and cultural legacies over the years, culminating in its admission as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and its recognition as one of the ten most best walled cities by CNNGo. The cities wall is certainly a sight to behold, stretching to 1940 metres long, and surrounding 5 forts and 16 towers.

Dubrovnik stems from a haunting an fascinating history; a legacy made tangible in the many forts and lazarettos- isolation hospitals for the plague. However, despite this rich history, the city’s tourism era only really began in the late nineteenth century, owing to the construction of luxury hotels such as Opatija and the Grand Hotel.
