Downstairs with David Laris is located on URBN Hotel’s ground floor, China’s first carbon-neutral hotel. Within the bustling city of Shanghai in the Jing’an District, the restaurant is considered an eco-friendly oasis. Reclaimed wooden flooring, recyclable and local material such as slate tiles are used to minimise the venue’s ecological footprint, while it supports The Million Tree Project towards a greener China.

Organic and locally-sourced ingredients are used to create European dishes with an Asian twist. David Laris’ vision is to create an ‘honest and real dining experience’ in harmony with both nature and the contemporary world.

The restaurant features seasonal menus to ensure all dishes are made with the freshest ingredients with the lowest environmental impact. Chefs David Laris and Executive Chef Chris Hibbert have concocted recipes such as Roasted Pumpkin, Quinoa, Kale, and Roasted Almonds with Pumpkin Seed Oil Vinaigrette for the health-conscious, and serve lunchtime treats including Hong Shao Ro (pork belly) with Ginger and Spring Onion served on a House-made Ciabatta for those hoping for a taste of fusion dishes. Nothing but American classics can be found on the desserts menu, such as Hot Fudge Sundae with Peanut Butter and Whipped Cream.
