Summers Place Auctions are the leading auctioneers of Garden Statuary and Natural History in the world. Their first sale was held nearly 30 years ago in Sotheby’s Country House saleroom at Summers Place in Sussex. Since then sales have flourished, securing them a global reputation.
A wealth and diversity of material is offered. Past treasures include a whole Italianate garden of fountains, a lakeside jetty, a statuary weighing more than 500 tonnes shipped over from Massachusetts, USA and a 15-foot high bronze bust of Lenin, liberated from a town square in Latvia after the fall of the Iron Curtain.

One buyer observed the astonishing diversity of items they offer, commenting that Sotheby’s sell everything “From Rome to chrome”. Recent highlights include an Roman Imperial 1st Century AD marble altar, surmounted by an urn carved by Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Discovered in pieces in a north London garden, the altar sold for £163,000. A one-of-a-kind bronze bust of Dame Elisabeth Frink from the Desert Quartet series was sold for a world record £180,000.
