Once the stately home of Sir John and Lady Ellerman, distinguished shipping magnates and investors, Ellerman House sits perched on the slopes of Lion’s Head in the prestigious Bantry Bay residential area.

Ellerman House has eleven rooms, two suites, and a private villa, with no two rooms alike. The property boasts two lounges, a library, two dining rooms, a spa, a main pool, gym, whisky bar, and expansive outdoor space. The property is not open to the public, offering a genuine level of privacy and luxury to guests.

Just a 10-minute drive to the V&A Waterfront, and a 5-minute walk to beautiful Clifton & Camps Bay beaches, Ellerman House is situated in the exclusive suburb of Bantry Bay.

Fine art is the soul of Ellerman House, and our collection sets us apart from other fine hotels in South Africa. This grand assortment of works has been assembled over three decades, and features a uniquely South African twist.

While Cape paintings were the original focus, the scope grew with the collection, and now encompasses an intriguing cross-section of genres representing a hundred years of South African culture. Ever-evolving, the collection is rotated every season. Our guests are warmly invited to take the Ellerman House Art Tour.

The Ellerman House cellar holds over 7,500 unique South African wines, sourced from established and emerging vineyards throughout the Western Cape. Our sommelier, Manuel Cabello, is available to arrange private tastings and recommend dinner pairings. The selection is designed to encourage ‘verticals of vintages,’ whereby guests sample and compare different vintages of the same wine. By using the innovative ‘Le Verre de Vin’ preservation system in our state-of-the-art cellar, we pour these exceptional wines at the perfect time – never compromising quality.

Under the guidance of Chef Veronica, the cuisine at Ellerman House works in concert with our art and fine wine, creating an experience notable to even the most well-versed travellers. Chef Veronica delights with her vibrant recipes, highlighted by Cape Malay spices and Farmers’ Market organic fruit and vegetables. The menu items change daily, but stay focused on modern European-style dishes. A master of the unexpected, her creativity pushes the boundaries of taste, while remaining true to the heart of gourmet cuisine.
