BBC Proms Opening Night, 18 July 2014

One of the most anticipated events of the year, the BBC Proms is the largest classical music festival in the world, boasting also one of the mightiest venues.

The Royal Albert Hall is a monument to the same Victorian pomp and splendour that swells through Edward Elgar’s music. There is no better way to open this season than with the composer’s biblical oratorio The Kingdom – the beautiful ‘slow movement’ of a musical triptych that started with The Apostles, but that would remain unfinished at Elgar’s death.

Special guests include the celebrated Elgarian and Proms favourite, Sir Andrew Davis, a Conductor Laureate of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, whose return in his 70th-birthday year will be joined by a distinguished cast of soloists.

The show begins at 7:30pm, but for those who wants to make the most of this beautiful venue and experience, the Hall’s six restaurants are open two hours before every concert and welcome bookings. Offering a huge range of culinary delights, set menus and drinks, there is no reason not to take full advantage of being part of this distinguished and prestigious event.
